Go on, inspire me.
Lately I've been in search of design inspiration for a future web show of sorts that I'm putting together at Current Tech, which is very exciting for a few reasons:
- I'll get to do more of what I love most... talk about the stuff I'm passionate about!
- Current gets to experiment with new avenues of video, like LIVE and STREAMING!
- We all have more reasons to participate in the Current Tech community and hang out together!
Sounds cool, right? Since I have no real design skills to speak of, I asked my Twitter community for some advice. And because they're so awesome, I got a ton of crazysexycool ideas! Like this one (via @tobiaslind):
Admittedly, I don't really understand this website, but I love it! Japan is fun.

I agree, Japan is so much fun. I love some of the simple illustrations that I run across from there. Good stuff, good times.

Great! If the show is half as awesome as popSiren (was :(), I'll be watching it every week (I guess it'll be weekly?).
Now I only hope it doesn't end like popSiren did. If it does, maybe you can do something awesome on your own, who knows. :)

Hey Sarah,
An idea did just hit me that could have potential. A general interest technology show shot on location in different parts of San Francisco, different locations per episode. Let's say a new gadget comes out, like the latest iPhone, you could pull people off the street to ask them their opinion. Or ask them what their current favourite Youtube video is, or favourite website. The idea would be for people on the street to feel involved. You could even feature mini reviews of certain things done by people on the street, giving their yays or nays. So, in a way, a Roving Technology Report.
She has had more company pole in her than acme flag pole and banner corporation.
Hey enough about you already, we need to find Martin a job. I think you should teach him this phrase that will get him work guaranteed! "Do you want fries with that?"

Great site. One of my favorites, if your looking for design inspiration there are some really good books that have nothing but images of designs in them that really help me out.

Enough said.
Wow, last post on this blog was Jun11, why even have a blog Sarah? Post something or get off the pot.
P.S.
Tell Martin to post something as well, nothing since the Wine loss.
You should do a one hour show were you have a staring contest with the audience.
Wow, you looked incredible on the 1000th AOTS. Which reminds me, can I sleep in a tent on your backporch when I get off of probation?
Two things, Sarah:
1) When is Current.ly with Sarah Lane launching? I haven't heard anymore news about it. I'm excited, so please keep us in the loop!
2) The TWiF theme song has been stuck in my head all day. Thanks a lot.
3) How is the Sarah.Word redesign coming along? I'm a freelance designer looking to expand my portfolio (or create one, really, I onloy have my own site right now), so if I can be of any help, let me know.
New podcast idea for Leo - TWILF - Twits Who I'd Like To FOAD
That is a pretty vague description to deliver a specific inspiration:-) You have always been good at matter of fact reporting, with a glint in your eye. Perhaps something involving new hardware that points out how something trendy could be practical, how it holds up to latte spills, battery life - does it get you through the day. Interviews with leads along the lines of Is this the original concept or... and maybe a bit about some of the most excellent freeware out there, the authors, and how to support them. How long that would carry you of course depends on what they'll front, your vision, and the freedom. If it dies with a few hits, or dies as a show, you need to have a fall back, a natural evolution. Viewers, web or HD, like not too deep, but accurate views, a twist, and something they feel familiar with. They don't want to relearn the format each episode. They want to say "oh that Sarah..ha,ha" then tell their friends about this great idea they saw on that girl's show until their BFF says yeah they usually have some pretty good stuff on there. Catchy tune to open, and to close, maybe a different one each episode. Too busy though sends viewers away, but catchy reminds them to walk into the room. KISS, don't rush the spots, involve the viewers, and wear a TShirt with a different slogan each show. A Sarah thing. Wear a shirt over the Tshirt and leave them guessing sometimes. Keep score of how many guests in the spots were taller than you. Make a thing the target audience chuckles at. I don't know. But play to your strengths, which is you, the gang you know in the field, and that sort of stuff. Like you review an item, gush all over it, one two second clip of Patrick or Leo tossing it in a waste basket, then you saying, others may disagree. But don't try and scoop things like Digg, it breaks too fast for production to catch up. If you try and tell viewers what they already know they'll wander away. Suppers on, gotta go. Luck. You have the parts, get a muse:-)
